Musical Pathway to the Sky

Musical Pathway to the Sky

A Poem by Mari-Sweet

Seven brothers were going home after

Playing in the woods one evening.

Suddenly, an invisible instrument

Spouted off a mesmerizing melody.

As the little boys danced away,

They reached a crystal cave.

When they entered, the music

Pulled them through the warmth and darkness.

The boys exited the cave and were

Dragged right up into the sky.

Then they saw a great black bear.

Its tail was made of stars.

“How did we get here?” the boys asked.

“The music from my pipe

Lured you onto my path,” replied the bear.

“And we came to your warm dark cave,” said the boys.

One boy swam away and landed on

A cloud that was shooting towards the ground.

Down he plunged, hitting the plush soil.

A seed had been planted beneath him.

An oak tree came up out of the ground,

Reaching for the sky with the boy on top.

It grew until it reached the place

Where his brothers were stationed.

The growing tree had stopped short

And the boy plummeted up to the Big Dipper.

The other boys and the bear looked up and

Saw that he was high up.

So they all joined him up there.

The bear sang on his pipe once more.

The moon could see the brothers dancing from afar.

At dawn, all the night lights vanished.

The boys looked at the bear and said,

“The starry glow from your tail is still there!”

Author's Note

Mari-Sweet
For one of my writing classes, we had to take the name of the person we cared about, find text with words beginning with the letters in the name, and write a poem using the phrases pulled out. So I took a name and used a story from a grade school Literature book. Then I added my own creative twist to it.
