A desire to distance myself

A desire to distance myself

A Poem by Mark D

I refused to pay my last respects
I rejected the idea
They never found my body in the morning
Foundering in the aftermath
Of my latest bout of self-judgement

So a new love was born
At the memorial stone
Just after old Gods had fallen
My impassioned fan
Helped me back onto the stage

The first performance that I meant
The first step out of an illusion
Not to exhibit a talent
Just to be her mountain

I have a desire to distance myself
From attracting attention
From everyone else
Except a fledgling lover

I've decided to play on
The conclusion of the concert
Is done with a smile on my face
And isn't up for public debate

I throughouly enjoyed the first half of the poem, but the second sounds as if you've stepped through a door, leading the reader to another poem. Thanks for sharing. I seriously loved that first stanza...

I just love the way you paint an idea in my mind with this and your words are delicate and yet strong in statement.. I love the strength of that last line.. :) well done..xo

I think I get what you are saying but maybe it is just my own perception. Good write.

Enjoyed the allusive decadence shadowed by irrelevance. It has a edgy feel.

an honest, critical look in the mirror in which the author finds himself to be lacking and is inspired to put the ones he loves first and find validation and value in their eyes
