By your own hand

By your own hand

A Poem by Mark D

Love’s wildest son

Stepping in time with torment

A love of the hunt

Leads to love of the death

So you trod on the flower

That they saw through the window

So many times as children

Without a song to bring out the sun

In crashing down with the rain

You took the water in your mouth

And tasted the earth

Spluttered the salt and gravel

It was more than just a sign

That your gates were closing

I saw the key turning

Locked by your own hand

Blind love left your kiss

And true friend left your hand

Their forgiving side is dead

From thinking of your falling

The soft echo that you heard all over

“Life is no more permanent

Than the love that left you”

The parting guest in the final hour

Do you play that harp alone now

Willing the sleeping night to answer?

Can you still wrestle a note from it

Before hushing the sounds of morning?

And would you ever dare to tell

A later love about these times?

Or dare to find the true relation

Between time and peace?

Knowing that time may slow the tears

But tears have means to slow the time

Well done! Such a beautiful piece! My favorite lines are "Life is no more permanent/Than the love that left you". I'd love to add that to my bedroom wall, which is full of quotes. :) I'll only add it with your permission. I'd hate to be accused of stealing such wonderful work.

the last two lines are my favorite, but boy, did you pack in some wicked imagery throughout this piece.. what is even more impressive than that, is the emotionally charged phrasing that compels you to keep reading and tugging on the heartstrings at the same time, that takes skill.. I love pieces that make me think, but also make me feel.. this one does that and then some.. I think over the years I have learned a little of the "relation between time and peace", just trying to work out the schematics.. the devil is in the details dangit.. just because you figure something out, doesn't mean you can do anything about it.. this is such a lovely piece.. well done :)

This is skilfully and precisely worded, and melancholy, but beautiful. It flows so easily when read aloud. Well done!

That was excellent. True poetry at its best in my opinion. I don't read much poetry as I tend to have some troubles comprehending it, but I do know how to enjoy a well-written piece. Thank you for sharing this one.
