Royalty

A Poem by Jay
"

Before "They Called Us Kings"

"
They called us Kings yet,
What do we have to show for it?
An empty cepter
a throne made of nails.
A crown made of chains
to shine with all its glory,
atop the head of the poor fool
one who accepts it's call to be king.

"Kneel" they say, as we bow our heads
As we watched the passing feet
of those who called us kings.
The Kings we heard of, no longer exist.
not in this lifetime anyway.

A lifetime further than our dreams can reach,
louder than our voices can carry
heavier than our limbs can bear.
This is the burden of a "King".....
To feel the weight of an entire kingdom,
yet smile in the faces
of those who would see him fall.

As I look to the sky
with the crown on my head
I breathe.
I breathe a kings breath
I look to my subjects and say that I am here.
And I understand
I understand that the weight of the crown
is beyond compare.
I understand that the head that wears it is one of pride.
Not out of guilt, not out of shame but through strength.
Even if,it is a crown made of chains
This is my gold.....
this is the crown I was given
until I forge my own,
the one they left
will serve in its stead

I'll use it as a symbol
a symbol of what I'll never be
A slave to my dreams
or a pauper to my ambitions.
Crowned with the jewels of our indifference
I humbly accept the fruits of my avarice
as a King in my own right.

This is second to one.....and last to none,in the story of our royalty and the path we took to become kings.

The poem is good... but the structure could be better, maybe try shortening your lines a little
