The Presence of the Christmas Tree

The Presence of the Christmas Tree

A Poem by Arthur Martel

Oh the Christmas Tree
it has such presence!
standing there so well dressed
I wonder if it knows at all the impression it makes?

Mothered by the room at center stage
covered by lights, baubles and angels
I can't help but feel so grateful
to be in the presence of something so aesthetically graceful

Oh the Christmas tree
it has such presence
Standing there like a tower
I wonder if it knows the joy it brings the younger you are?

All around it it's supporting acts
surrounded by presents, stockings and tinsel
all wrapped and filled with things they attract
just to remind you that Christmas can be so simple

Above all is the spirit of the mistletoe
that brings loved ones together at ease
who keep each other warm through the winter freeze
whether it's dark or light it will glow and shine
reflecting on the times

Oh the Christmas tree
it has such presence!
standing there with all it's friends
I wonder if it knows about it's wonderful presence

Nice homage to the delight the Christmas tree gives.

NOTES: There shouldn't be a space between the end of the word and the exclamation point. Some of the longer lines could be shortened for balance; for example: "in the presence of something so [aesthetically] graceful." or "[Does] it knows the joy it brings the [young at heart]?"

One of my favorite topics to read is anything about Christmas or Winter in general. I really like the ambiance of snow, evergreen trees, and candle light, so I found this piece quite to my liking. My favorite part of this poem is the fifth stanza, because I really like the history and significance of the mistletoe. And the imagery in that verse especially is exhilarating. I have no suggestions for this one. I do have a question, though. Is that you in the photo?

A beautiful and hopeful poem for Christmas. I like the use of the mistletoe. I like the use of the Christmas tree. Give light and hope to the people near. Thank you for sharing the excellent Christmas poetry.
