Thorn to Rose

Thorn to Rose

A Poem by Benedict Mdluli

How then shall it be that a stranger now completes mine heart?

not known to my eyes nor had I ever heard her voice but deeper

in the shades of darkness she had found herself in, I too deeper

in the bushes ready to quit on the quest. Save me a whispering

voice came down my path, I heard loud and clear but wasn’t

willing to settle for her.

Finally I was taken aback my heart still in shambles hers in pain we

agreed on a price exchanged the most valuable possessions in our

lives the hearts, they got connected to the anger of many, to the

astonishment of all the enemies and mine too, this is not what I

had perceived.

She was a thorn amongst roses, but proved that indeed gold is

still gold even in the midst of the mud, it just needs to be cleaned

I patiently waited for her to be what I thought would a great queen,

slowly but surely she became a great somebody she acquired new

life now she is all I have in the whole world filled with temptations

that I  resist when I think of her, my rose but not one, the one I crown

to love. If my world had to stop and I  were next to  my crowned queen

next to me all will be well I will go to the heavens with a smile, she

makes my days easy and marvelous.

I have no words to describe my life, the partner I chose to be aligned with

All my prayers are being answered, I appreciate the soul I was embraced

With, I revere the heart that has seen it fit to grant mine the opportunity

to love, I learnt to re-love she learnt to re-trust my bundle of joy the one

that makes my heart go spiral out of control. The love we share is like that

of birds it has no time to show, my imperfection is well known unto her

I know hers we the strength in our weaknesses.
