If Only

If Only

A Poem by Nico Marie

Lonely hearts
get stepped on and torn apart.
Mine is all but gone.
Fleeting and brief, like dawn.
I ache for love,
I ache for affection.
Just a little attention.
Please mother,
please father,
love me.
Tell me I am not a bother.

I was brought into this world by both of you!
How could it be
that there is no love for me?
There's no room for your child now?
The baby girl you raised is scared!
If she should dare to speak out,
would you cast her aside?

My cry for help was clear,
and all I got was a mere
"You'll be okay"?
I'm not okay.
Not then, not today.
Please just here my cries!
If you listened,
maybe I wouldn't have almost died.

But you're so wrapped up in your prize child.
No matter what she does,
no matter if she acts spoiled and wild,
you shower her in praise.
While I sit here in a daze,
pills consumed,
last words doomed to remain unread.

If only you had loved me,
it wouldn't be a pain to see my scars.
But now you are ashamed.
Who's fault is that?
Who is to blame?
I guess I am,
since you never gave a damn.

About
My new pen name is Nico Marie. I'm 25 now in 2022. This used to be where I vented 9 or 10 years ago as Jekyll 'n Hyde so most of it is extremely cringy. Probably all of it if I'm being honest. I'll mo.. more..
