Trench Digger

Trench Digger

A Poem by Matthew Ryan Hardy

I pray for this darkness to disappear

I feel it getting closer and closer

Wrapping its arms around my heart

Darkening my eyes

No more do I see that straight and narrow path

That I once was on

The Trench I've dug for myself just keeps getting deeper and deeper

That still small voice is to far away

Like hearing a whisper on a stormy day

Calm the storm around me once again

So I can grab onto your hand and walk your path

Open my heart to your healing power

Wipe my hands clean of my sinful past

Take that dark sheet and replace it with your light

Because I want everyone to know

That you are my king
