HYPOTHERMIA

HYPOTHERMIA

A Poem by Matyushkin
"

A free verse poem about a wife's preceptive before she murdered her husband.

"

Frozen tear on cheek

Slipping, smashing into hail

Stabbing wells in snow

Snow crunching between toes

Invisible hands slap

Elastic ears

Tomato checks

Gusting from a toothy white-hole

Discarding gnawed fingers, black

Roses rot, robins flee

Backyards are graveyards

Sundresses are parkas;

Winter drinks his tea

 Tea is a rock

Winter doesn't caress

Hypothermia

Winter doesn't respond

Blizzard

Winter doesn't be

Winter is

Author's Note

Matyushkin
Are the last two lines confusing? Do you find the metaphor between winter and the relationship clichéd?
