Red stump

Red stump

A Poem by Maxwell Ryder

I packed the Marlboros
Shed the plastic wrappper,
Tossed it in the bin;
Lit the cig behind my hand,
Bracing in a stiff North wind;
Took one look at my furry friend,
Pointed out the fire hydrant
beside him:
“Fido, look, it’s Donald Trump,”
Then watched him hike his leg up
And piss upon the red stump.
“Good boy. Now let’s go grab some lunch.”

I love that I found something of yours in my reading library becuz I never see you here anymore. Will look to check & see if I've missed anything new lately! I always remember your writing fondly. This poem feels incongruous to me, having grown up & lived in "Marlboro country" most of my life . . . this person would not teach something derogatory with Trump's name on it . . . this person is a Trump supporter. Other than that glitch, I love what you're doing here & the cig-lighting details are sharply defined! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Love hearing your "mom" connection to the cig! Thanks for sharing that!
