I Set It Down

I Set It Down

A Poem by Mary
"

Sometimes grudges, past hurts are nurtured as if they are our children. We name them and hold them dear to us. But what happens when one is lost?

"

I set it down

just a second ago…

that Grudge I’ve been holding...

now where did it go?

It’s not in my Baggage

of Past Hurt and Pain.

nor is it in Pride.

Is it hiding In_Sane?

Without it I just won’t

know what to do

on that some-day day

when I bump into you.

I might have to accept

that this is the end

of the heart-to-heart combat

of used-to-be friends.

first of all, it is promising that you initially set down that grudge. secondly, the fact that you seem to have lost it is pure poetry...this write is very imaginative and quite well thought out. a lesson for life's better values encompassed within a very poignant and clever prose. well done!

Good poem, great subject. To let go, always difficult but necessary. I like the flow of your words here. The secret to being free? Forgive, then let it be.

Its amazing how we can hold on to grudges for old mishaps and wounds but its amazing how freeing it can be to let go of it as well.

and sometimes we plum forget what it was all about in the first place!
I keep staring at the necklace/bracelet with
the icons attached and keep thinking, where will
'I go with her? This girl is all over the place, she loves
everybody when she is not hating them.
She teaches school, she looks for reality in people , but
she knows they are as confused as she.
It may sound like I don`t like her---- No, not true, I think
she is very liikable, even lovable. She has such convoluted
interests. How could we not follow her intently wating
for the next move------ "The next move may be the surprise,
the eye opening , shocking revelation in to this exciting girl.

thanks. I've learned the hard way what a cancer grudge holding is.

Yes, it does far more damage to the holder than the object. :)
Witty, and very metrical, which is a plus in my book. Old grudges certainly act to slow us down, and do us a lot more harm than the grudg-ee. Luckily, old age tends to deal with them in time - personally, I can no longer be bothered with their maintenance...

thank you for your kind review. I'm with you on the maintenance of grudges.
its best to just let go and move on. Nice work.

I was surprised to see your note about this being a "work in progress". I think it is absolutely perfect as it is right now. Very nice. I especially liked, 'Is it hiding In_Sane?' and, 'the end of the heart-to-heart combat of used-to-be friends'.

Thanks Althea, it was a healing experience ;-)
This is such a charming, almost lighthearted approach to a topic that is really somewhat of a serious one. I have to admit, i'm one of those people who does have a tendency to hold a grudge, so this poem really resonated with me. A beautiful well written piece!
