A Little Whine with that Cheese?

A Little Whine with that Cheese?

A Poem by Mary
"

exam time at schools all over the country. ahh the angst! My favorite question my students ask is "is this going to count?" message to kids, this too will pass, so go home and hit the books!

"

Will this be on the test?

Is it what I need to know?

Will not knowing it affect my grade?

Where does the heading go?

I’ll never use this, ever! grrr…

It’s such a waste of time!

It's just that it's so pointless

Like nonalcoholic wine! EEK!

I’d rather clean the toilet…

I’d rather eat a worm!

Than study all this foolishness

But I have to pass this term!

Those days were so long ago for me that the main things i remember are blowing cigarette smoke into a school bag behind the teachers back, and filling his pipe with kerosine and watching the foot long flame erupt when he lit it, singing his eyebrows. What we actually learnt eludes me these days. I think I learnt more after leaving school by reading history books, something I failed dismally at while there. But this is a fun piece, and even employs rhyme and metre. Nicely done,
David.

Left school long ago.But the memory of exam still comes as those original school days.
Thank you Mary for reviving the atmosphere of class room of love and anxiety among the past students.

I also completed higher education in later life and served for long for survival.Everywhere I had the same feeling as pointed out in the last stanza of your poem whenever the question of exam or test appeared.

Been there, done that. And I was right . . . never used trig or calculus again in my life. Never needed to consult Mendeleev or diagram a sentence. But I survived the academic boot camp and became educated in spite of it. This was perfect and I thank you for reminding me.

Very cute. I really liked this one. I love how you move from the thought process of the students taking the test to the thought process of the teacher taking it.

This so sounds like what they say! Love the figure with his big eyes...adds to the piece as well. The presentation works.
