Distraction

Distraction

A Poem by Meghan Newton

There is evil within me; it is deep within my roots,
A nothingness, a tyrant, an inconspicious crook,
I beg of you to understand and justify my needless sin,
You would feel the same with an addiction to a blade across your skin,

Do the God's look upon me with an inoculate grin?
Praising the underworld for the gripping pain that I'm in?
But what possibly have I done to be sealed with such a curse?

Although I've lied, I've never cheated and I've never caused a hearse,
An unconscious decision is embedded in myself,
It's only me that deserves this, me and nobody else,

I will soon wander off into the far distant land,
A desolate atmosphere, with not a soul gripping my hand,
If fate is conspiring perhaps I will survive,
Or I will fade into ashes and entrance the night sky,
The memories and wisdom, the values that I've had,
Will billow ferociously, caressing as they dance,
Dance and capitivate the compulsive sky,
Dance and bestow beauty as one inbeauty dies.
