A Forest In Night

A Forest In Night

A Poem by Mehul Rwat
"

Well, I have been into the woods at night many time and i find the peace and calmness quite charming. Why not to put it into words!! So here it is :-

"

For some a forest in night may be a very
unwelcome sight,
But to me it is quite charming-
more so in moonlight.
It really has an aura of charm,
you can feel it in the air,
The dark, grey mighty trees look so
noble and fair.
Their silver shiny leaves sway
gently in the breeze,
And the poor moon in the icy pool
is just about to freeze.
All may seem very still
but it is not actually so,
For it is only at night the jungle comes alive
for a creature and its foe.
It's the most appropriate time for an owl
to give a hoot,
'Chuck-chuck' may say a nightjar and
'Quack-quack' may say a coot.
If you hear with care, you may hear a bear
at it's favourite bark,
Or you may hear startled cries of a deer or at
dawn the singing of a lark.
To visit a forest in night, if you ever get
a chance of any kind,
Do not hesitate, get a torch or some company and be off-
you'll be surprised with what you find!!

it sounds like a lovely experience. i live in the city and don't live near any forests, but still i would think that it would be a treacherous place. it's nice to hear they have beautiful forests in india.

Dear Mehul Rawat,

I had to view some more of your stuff. I enjoyed reading this as well. I often wanted to do things like this: visiting the forest at night, seeing the ocean at sunset, stand next to a river by dawn. However here, I can imagine the sound, the touch, the scene. The words are simply and elegantly put. The darkness is only frightening if you let it frighten you.

I loved this.

Sincerely Livana Lowell (LL)

God bless

oh this is so wonderful. It reminds me of the wonderful night time rides that my father and i used to take. We'd always stop in this little wooded area that has a stream. We'd stop and just listen. We've seen many a raccoon baby left in the tree while it's mother goes hunting, a few curious foxes, and lots of bats and nightjars. Of course, there are the stars in the sky too. Thank you for this poems, it invokes pleasant memories

I love Coots we have them near where I live in England never knew they lived in India, live and learn I guess. The scene you set with your words indeed seems beautiful, to walk at midnight within a forest of silver and showered moon light, the variety of animals and sounds must only add to the magic of the moment, lovely. keep em' coming

Mehul you are very good in expressing the scenes. You should read the poems of Ruskin Bond. You may like these.
