Broken Mirror

Broken Mirror

A Poem by Melissa Kester

In the early morning light
When the sun has made its rise
I look into my soul
And search for my disguise

There, deep within the depths
I find a pretty mask
This will do for today
Now it's time to do my task

I'm ready to face the day
With dramatic coal lined eyes
To hide the swollen proof
Of the need for this disguise

My lips are painted red
And my cheeks, blushed with rose
To hide the simple fact
That my skin no longer glows

My hair is long and curled
And draped around my face
To hide the cracks and bruises
The scars I can't erase

In the reflection of the mirror
I screw in my bright new smile
Like every day before
No one will see my wile

This is true for many people so it's very relatable. Great writing, great poem.

Thank you :)
Goodness, what a lot of trouble you're going through!
I have never worn makeup in my life. Cam't see the sense in it...I already have eyes, a mouth...everything works well (except the eyes), so I don't need more.
My mom was never seen in public without full makeup, as she called it.
Try doing without it; the natural look is usually what makeup ads promise. You can get that for free! I bet you're really very pretty.

Oh; well, good. It's not good for your pores, you know, and there are sometimes toxic elements in it.. read more

I have never worn make up in my life, in a way I relate to your words
