The Emptiness That Was You

The Emptiness That Was You

A Poem by Melissa Kesead

My hand reaches out

you're not there

to touch your face

caress your hair

to hold you close

but you're gone

from day to night

and dusk to dawn

but my hand still reaches out

to grasp the emptiness

that was you

Beautiful. Took my breath away. I can see someone almost in a dream, seeing the one they love and holding out their hand to them, but their love is just out of reach. But it doesn't stop anyone from trying. When you lose someone, you want to anything to bring them back, and even if you know you can't do that, that knowledge doesn't stop you from trying. I can feel the emotion in this piece pouring off the page. It's a short, simple piece, but it means so much.

Reminds me of Avril Lavigne's "When You're Gone" It makes me wonder about the losses that we all suffer from one point or another. When we gain an achievement or do something meaningful with our lives and we want to tell that special person, we have to stop and think, they're not here anymore and we go on wondering if they are proud of us. I think so and I know that's all we really have in life is faith and family.

Beautiful and short. It gets right to he point and can mean so many things.
