My Black Cat

He has a dark but kind soul

And fur as black as coal.

He has emerald green eyes

And he watches with prying eyes,

Under his shadowy guise.

I love watching cats, but cats & I do not jive. I'm a dog person and I simply love getting a glimpse of catness thru a cat-lover's eyes. I love how this depiction has much darkness of spirit, as if a black cat is inherently spooky. I volunteered at animal shelters for 6 years & black animals are the last ones to be adopted. People don't see them, they say, cowering in the back of a cage. Potential adopters are drawn to the pets with light coloring or fancy markings. Personally, I love black animals. I have had two black male cats over the years, Archie and Sooty. Neither of them cuddly cats, however they were great hunters and spent much time in the garden. This little poem about your adorable black cat has brought some memories back. I am thankful about that.
