earthen vessel

earthen vessel

A Poem by Mockingbird

genuflect before the earthen vessel
those who come to seek absolution

a widow's screen on a cracked facade
a mesh of signatures etched
on kneaded clay
where pilgrims return
to find their mark.

crocodile blooms have long been scorched
the glint of thorns blind like steel blades.

they abandoned the mores to walk the edge
then tripped on the air that brought them.
strangers tarried to drink the wine
just passing through, just passing time
waiting to reawaken.

after all have fed
they quickly fled
leaving shards and dregs behind them.

the quest ends here
the snakes are slaked.

Mockingbird, the images this poem conjured were interesting and strange. It didn't matter to me that I wasn't sure whom or what the unlove was aimed at. The images alone made this really cool to read. I am so happy I could place you in my contest. Congratulations! Thank you for submitting. Angi~

Oh sweet sin, why does your poison taste so divine that I return in ritual to empty, so that I refill ?

I'm definitely going to have to read this more than five times... I've tried to make sense of it, but it doesn't seem to be working with me. Yet, I love the description of each words you wrote and it sounds like a delight to write.

the title doesn't carry the weight and significance that the rest of this piece bears so easily. the rest is quite wonderful, i love the feel and flow and message presented. brilliant.
