Devouring Lives

Devouring Lives

A Poem by Seshat Nidaba

I cover metaphysics with poppies

And made my philosophy the hunt of April

Do you remember balconies of youth?

That looked out honestly with forgiveness?

The salt of commerce is on

Everyone's hands, they used me

And I dare say I used them

With my bread and butter, for longing

Experiment, for profound poems

That dug deep in the beautiful house

Of mortality, for geranium bursts and dreams

And little children, that would run

Fast enough to make our heart pinch

With all that life is supposed to be

Until oil has reached the spoon

And the heart is damp with liquid ether

I will drink water with a new state of silence

I will cover myself with the Tao

Like a warm blanket of deep understanding

The salt of commerce is an excellent image for me, we're used and abused every day as far as I'm concerned.

The search for gnosis...as the years pass, I find myself looking at children differently. I'm a so far from that beautiful innocence and naivety now that I can truly appreciate what a gift it was when I possessed it.

"of mortality, for geranium bursts and dreams"--this is a tangible image for me...a beautiful image.
