Two People

Two People

A Poem by Michael Iam Bone
"

This poem is about the conflict between my Yin and Yang.

"
I am two people...
Both incomplete, both longing for a home...
Hopeless is their struggle, lest one is cast aside...
How does one know joy, when they have only known pain?...
How does one know pain, when they have only known joy?
They don't.
What makes us who we are comes down to our genes.
What we are made of... it limits us.
It limits our bodies.
It limits our minds.
It limits our souls.
What makes us who we are comes down to our minds.
What we experience... it limits us.
It limits our knowledge.
It limits our wisdom.
It limits our virtue.
What then is left for us to define ourselves?
Nothing.
This is all true...
When cast aside,
Knowing only suffering,
There is no life,
There is no joy,
There is no reason to even exist...
And yet... this is also true...
How does one know joy, when they have only known pain?
With kindness.
And, how does one know pain, when they have only known joy?...
With cruelty...
Our genes... our genes are something wonderful...
What we are made of... it enables us.
It enables us to live.
It enables us to think.
It enables us to awaken.
And our minds... our minds are something amazing...
What we can experience... it empowers us!
It empowers our desires!
It empowers our emotions!
It empowers our potential!
What then is left for us to define ourselves?
Everything!
When given warm embrace,
Knowing only happiness,
There is no death,
There is no pain,
There is only the desire to live...
So Yin and Yang have met,
Their battle not yet ended.

The juxtaposition between how our experiences both limit and empower us is beautifully done. I really love the flow of this poem. I've been trying to find writers that are interested in the same themes as me, and your writings are on point. Beautiful work!
