The Bard's Song

The Bard's Song

A Poem by Michael Thrower
"

The Bard's Song of Blind Guardian

"
Now You all know
The bards and their songs
When hours have gone by
I'll close my eyes
In a world far away
We may meet again
But now hear my song
About the dawn of the night
Let's sing the bards' song

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow will take it away
The fear of today
It will be gone
Due to our magic songs

There's only one song
Left in my mind
Tales of a brave man
Who lived far from here
Now the bard songs are over
And it's time to leave
No one should ask You for the name Of the one
Who tells the story

Tomorrow will take us away
Far from home
No one will ever know our names
But the bards' songs will remain
Tomorrow all will b e known
And You're not alone
So don't be afraid
In the dark and cold
'Cause the bards' songs will remain
They all will remain

In my thoughts and in my dreams
They're always in my mind
These songs of hobbits, dwarves and men
And elves
Come close Your eyes
You can see them, too

I like this poem and the song, oh I'm going to have to add it to my iPod! :) the poem brings a fantasy land to mind. Maybe even a dream, somewhere you would want to be when you close your eyes. An escape where you won't worry about what's going on and you won't be alone.

Irish bards came to mind. I hear that the tradition of singing of the past was always associated with the Irish. Nice music.

thank you.
Reminds me of a book I have called "the beetle and the bard" lol but I digress. This was a very good poem. The basic Idea of the poem reminds a bit of a poem I wrote called "the nile weaver"
so of course I approve whole heartedly.

It sort of reminds me of medieval times. I love the song it flows nicely.

Lol yes, well "Bard" is a medieval word.
I haven't heard of the band before. But I like it! The poem almost seems as a kind of mythical land, which i love.

Great stuff, Micheal. It reminds me of being a poet in general, and how your work will live on after your time has passed.

I had to think of fugacity and how fragile everything in this world is. Nothing lasts forever, but to have your story survive in any form keeps at least the memory of you alive...
And to those who hear them, they can be an inspiration - I think with the last stanza you are refering to Tolkien's stories? Well, I am sure their story won't be forgotten in their world, nor in ours.
