Barcelo Hotel

Barcelo Hotel

A Chapter by The Poetry of Michal (Mitak) Mahgerefteh
"

About the poem: during our trip in Morocco, we stayed at this hotel for an overnight stay. It was hard to sleep as the street below was busy with merchants and musicians...through the early morning.

"

Barceló Hotel

the streets below resound

                            with the rhythm of musicians

  bursting in loud accented songs

a mix of English and Moroccan Arabic

       heard from down the hall

gold bracelets swinging   tinkling gently

on henna wrists tattooed red and blue

     clapping   ululating   celebrating life

pigeons on open window sills

                       pecking"cooing"kissing   mating dance

under sparkling skies   a restful Medina

perfumed in scents of orange blossoms

blended pleasantly with burnt-mint incense

wafting over blue-tile fountains and red roof-tops

peace settles   I huddle under a woolen blanket

dreaming of spirited steeds roaming sand dunes

                                    in a golden"magical Sahara
