Wait

Wait

A Poem by lost sock

She cherished every moment with him
fearing each moment may be the last.
She dreaded the time she knew he would leave.
She wished that time could wait.

He could feel the strain on their relationship
with his departure coming fast.
He loved her, and though he told her not to,
He secretly hoped she would wait.

She sat alone every day
always anxious for the mail to come.
She was aware that death constantly threatened him.
She prayed that it would wait.

He had anticipated this day
had looked forward to it since he first left.
He was finally going home after all that had happened.
He couldn't wait.

She smiled brightly when she saw him.
He wrapped his arms around her, afraid to let go.
Together they laughed and cried
because they knew it was worth the wait.

I like the repetition and flow in this one. Yet, I'm confused about some things. In the fourth stanza it reads the male can't wait to leave, but the last stanza reads they don't want to be leave each other. I'm not so sure as to how to interpretate this, but might just be me though. Always good to read sad poems with a cheerful tone within them. Interesting piece!
