In the Company of Rain

In the Company of Rain

A Poem by Lost in Wonderland

Can you taste it in the air?
The storm on yonder horizon
Painting the world a grey and dismal vision.
Birds cease their flight to stare.

Shall I dance, would I dare?
My lover a rich man's son...
If I bid him, would he come?
'Tis doubtful with his many affairs.

Which leaves me to wander alone,
Enveloped by this sympathetic rain
Grieving with me as I ponder his lies.

It's watery embrace makes me feel welcome, known,
For I know no other but the birds hear my desperate cries
While I whither away in this silent pain.

Lost in Wonderland
My friend Abi who's a few years older than me was telling me about this poem type she was learning about in English 4. Today I got a text with the above rhyme scheme from her. So this is my attempt at a Petrarchan (which is an Italian sonnet). Hope you enjoy c:

Thank you Tomi:)

I always found rain to be therapeutic...unfortunately it doesn't make your problems disappear, which is what this piece sounds like...I did a Shakespearean one once but have never tried the Petrarch form...I've read some of them though and this is a great example of one...great job :)

I loved the imagery and the feel of this poem. I'm not familiar with this poem type either, however, you did a wonderful job anyway.

My pleasure
I'm afraid I'm unknown to Petrarchan sonnets. I can't be of help.
Nice poem nonetheless. I liked the general go-happy downer attitude of this, if that makes any sense.

Truly beautiful. Its imagery was overwhelming and the words describe it as lovely as it can be. Great piece.

Not bad. Not technically a Petrarchan sonnet because you've only kept up the ABBA form in the first half of the octave, but the sestet is solid and your concept and imagery are fairly well-done as well. Well done.

psh you're too sweet haha:P
Well, I'm not one for sonnets but I loved this all the same. I've never heard of or read a petarchan so my review might not be helpful...anyways. I liked it a lot. At first I thought it was describing someones love for the rain but then you caught me off guard wit the rich husband. Which at first seemed out of place but then as I continued it fit it well. I kind of think of the Wicked Witch of the West melting away in the rain from lack of love. haha good job :)
