Show and Tell

Show and Tell

A Poem by Cookie
"

Society will kill us yet.

"
Buildings, walls, raise them tall,
Make them stand and never fall.
Empires forever come and go,
But what we had we'll never know.

The open fields, the miles of trees,
Nature's beauty shown wide and free.
Wide open spaces, but not anymore.
Nature fights a losing war.

The fields are taken, the trees all lost.
Nature's beauty becomes exhaust.
Engines roar and buildings rise,
But still we have our pretty blue skies.

The starry nights and Milky Way,
Amazing in its own true way,
Some people may never get to see,
The better world that used to be.

In the deepest darkest nights,
We used to be able to see the light,
Of a thousand stars way up above.
Now we only see rich men's love.

No tiny stars to light our way,
Up to Heaven's golden gates.
Only lights of men to show and tell,
The whole world how to get to Hell.

Amazingly vivid imagery draws the reader into the poem...The last stanza was my favorite. Great job!!!

Thank you, again!
Really nice imagery in this one. I like the juxtaposition of the internal feelings with the sprinklings of nature. I like the last stanza the best..."No tiny stars to light our way"--good line. Well done.
