Promises

Promises

A Poem by Midnight_Mask

As simple words raise in me,
With caressing hands in sympathy,
In the darkness, I'll be your light.
In your weakness, I'll be your fight.

All I seem to say and feel,
Are hollow nothings that'll guide your way.
Give you the hope that I will remain,
Always and forever.

Time squashed so thickly,
I begin to suffocate,
On promises and apologies,
Building that wall up higher,
The one that has defended me for years.

Through desperation, I claw for someone
I burn with terror of being alone,
With the walls breaking in on me,
With the world slowly engulfing me,
With every fear of never being,
I find nothing in the dark.

Helpless and vulnerable,
I sit with my arms hugging my legs close,
Cheeks dampened, head hung low,
Words of insanity creeping close,
I've promised you my all, but my all is destroyed.
