Crazy Lady on the Stairs

Crazy Lady on the Stairs

A Poem by M.E.Lyle
"

More silliness

"

Crazy Lady on the Stairs

Down the stairs she falls

Gracefully she calls

"I've fallen and I can't get up."

As I drink from my coffee cup

Such an awkward looking creature

Like characters from a horror feature

Books scattered everywhere

At the bottom of the stair

"You oughta' be more careful," I say.

"It's dangerous falling down that way."

Lifting her off the ground

She screams an awful sound

"It's broken you idiot, can't you see?"

As it dangles there in front of me.

"Sorry, but I didn't know.

Should I stay or should I go?"

She shouts and gives command

This woman who can not stand.

"You leave and I"ll cast a spell

Sending you straight to...well.

I'll fill you full of lead," she said.

I'll make you wish you were dead

Smash your tiny little head

Or maybe squash your brains instead."

"But Mom, I'm your only son.

I ought to call nine-one-one?"

I love you Mom,

You're still number one.

"Crazy Lady on the Stairs"
M.E.Lyle,
It is interesting how some people will patiently endure verbal and emotional barbs when they come from a mother. I wondered if this poem was taken from real life experiences dealing with and caring for an elderly parent.
With old age can come great difficulty of mind and body. You surlly have given an image of a loving, kind and patient son simply doing his best under what, I am sure is trying at times.
Your ryhming was really good and the message pretty sobering but funny at the same time:
"Down the stairs she falls,
gracefully she calls.
Iv'e fallen and I can't get up
as I drink from my coffee cup."
So you act and give aid, like a good son would do:
"Lifting her off the ground
she screams an awful sound."
So then.........a barrage of words that I can just see her yelling in pain and frustration.
But you keep your cool:
"I love you mom
your still number one."
Blessings,
Kathy
