New Day

New Day

A Poem by MikeTheMechanic
"

Maybe this is about my recent break-up, maybe its about my recent leaving of my long term place of employment, maybe it just about a guy breaking out of prison. I don't know.

"

What are you still doing here anymore?

Still trudging through the muck,

Does garbage-can street cat still purr at your,

Approaching shadow?

Can you still waltz across the night's bridge,

Free from peering eyes and crooked smiles?

Do stars still twinkle and shine,

When you're short on time?

Can you still jump for joy?

Can you run?

Is there a finish line?

No one was there, waiting,

No destination now, fading,

Lone traveler walking the shoulder,

No longer concealed by concrete entangled mess,

Finally free,

To be stuck.

Is there someone new out there?

Will they anticipate your sudden arrival?

Will you walk into open arms?

Or simply,

Become a background character.

An extra with no lines.

Take it easy now, man.

I know what you're thinkin'.

Things were more simple,

That comfort you're drinkin'.

It kept you in,

They kept us out,

Tell us what it's,

All about.

Tread carefully lone star of the night,

Stick to the path,

You'll be alright.

Interesting. It's a decent read. I can feel the emotions behind the writing, but a couple of times I became lost in the flow of the poem. The structure is just fine though. Might I suggest printing out the poem, and reading over it a couple of times to see where you could improve it more.
