Second BestA Poem by MillieI was just second best.
Second Best? Was that all I ever was?
Just the person to fill the gap, When lonely nights took their hold? I gave you all of me, So, from what I see, all was not enough? Why did yo change so much? Was the gap too big, could I not fill it? You have your picks for lonely nights. Yet I'm the one sat here, longing. Longing that you'll realise. That I was not made for your lonely nights. Second best, Dream a dream of sweet dismay. As every other person can come before me. Make you feel something, just for a little while. Does it really mean anything? Yet i'll be here, just a phone call away. It won't be me, who's first in the pecking line. It stings, that second best feeling. I can't hate you, nor make this stop. But second best, I shall be not. For letting you live lonely would be punishment enough. A warning in fact, that lonely nights, They were made for two alone, So don't make me become second best. You have your pick, But I shall no longer be apart of that.
