Crack of Dawn

Crack of Dawn

A Poem by Molly Cara

When I boarded the plane it was 5 am

And dawn was just about to crack.

Between myself and the window sat the sun:

His light too

Rides the eight-minute economy class flight

To the symmetry of your smile

It was gravity I took to the grave

Or did it take me?

Eight minutes passed in a firestorm

And the sun stood and stretched and pocketed

His newspaper,

Walked the aisle and beckoned me

To him to the door to the bluish black sky

And he said "I'm not your average paper boy

This is what it takes to deliver the morning"

And he leapt and the world turned

Incarnadine and gold and I leapt and the world

Stayed still.
