Winter

Winter

A Poem by MomzillaNC

Winter

Bleak September rain

washes away the end of Summer…

Damp, Barber winds bluster and

     carry away warm Summer breezes…

The hastening dance of days

runs ever shorter in fall of Autumn color

Brittle, dry, crackling leaves

     fly, dance, shutter, and fall…

Fragile, crumbling refuse

     of warmer, brighter days.

Cold winds blow,

     snaking round every corner…

Swirling, seeping, sneaking
into every chilly nook and bower…

Breathing frigid fractals

     ‘pon the frosted windowpane…

Slithering, plundering warmth

     and weak, dreary daylight…

From hyperboreal frozen,

     merciless, snowbound nights.

Winds howl and souls cower

‘neath the crawling, creeping glacial rictus…

Buried in the icy grip

     of desolate, frozen Winter.

Winter is by far my favorite season, and I really enjoyed seeing it portrayed in such a cold, creative way. It makes you feel chilly just reading it! Great poem!

I'm a sucker for well composed writing..

The alliteration/assonance in this piece is absolutely captivating. It forced me to picture this, and I appreciate that. :)

Good to know! I made me run for my plush comforter!
these are the worst days...not the crisp blue beautiful days of autumn but those transitional days, the grey in between days...

reminds me of november...that in between season with all the bare trees...and grey skies.

really wonderful description.

Being my favourite season, I always enjoy reading the different visions that poets apply to it, and the changing of the seasons in general...loved the 'barber' winds, and the way the dancing days are filtered through the flow and the alliteration...great work :)

My pleasure.
You're writing is always so beautifully thought out! I am never disappointed when I read something of yours~~

Fall is coming in head first where I am and your description of said season rings true for me. Last week it was ninety, now it's barely seventy...And then, of course, there's your description of winter. As unforgiving of a season as it is, there is something magical about it. Your diction is phenomenal (as always) and I'm willing to bet that my Florida-native roommate would agree with your description of the season in a heartbeat!

I enjoyed reading this greatly!

Very well composed work that has superb language which is very descriptive and expressive in detail..I am glad that I chose this one today..I felt lifted up even though it was a work about winter..Thanks for the visit to my page..It has been probably fifty years ago that the parents got the plastic surgery for their son so plastic surgery is not new..I wonder what his bride thought if they had a son who had the same ears before the surgery that is if he had not shared about his big ears..Sara
