Winter

Winter

A Poem by MomzillaNC

Winter

Bleak September rain

washes away the end of Summer…

Damp, Barber winds bluster and

     carry away warm Summer breezes…

The hastening dance of days

runs ever shorter in fall of Autumn color

Brittle, dry, crackling leaves

     fly, dance, shutter, and fall…

Fragile, crumbling refuse

     of warmer, brighter days.

Cold winds blow,

     snaking round every corner…

Swirling, seeping, sneaking
into every chilly nook and bower…

Breathing frigid fractals

     ‘pon the frosted windowpane…

Slithering, plundering warmth

     and weak, dreary daylight…

From hyperboreal frozen,

     merciless, snowbound nights.

Winds howl and souls cower

‘neath the crawling, creeping glacial rictus…

Buried in the icy grip

     of desolate, frozen Winter.

A really good write. Although, there are several poems out there trying to describe "winter" I feel this is far better than those. I love the way you capture its essence. Great work.

What a fabulously written and so well composed poem you've written, Denise. Fall...it gets my creative juices flowing, and is my most cherished of all the seasons.

You've captured the essence beautifully here, as fall relinquishes her colorful hold on earth, and Old Man Winter takes the reigns.

Magnificent!

Hah-ha, yes, that would work too, LOL...
My God that is a fantastic poem of winter and the descriptive wording is beyond beautiful, the sheer smooth construction of lines and the icy flow of rhyme into frozen winter makes it all a supreme poem, a library work for me, thank you.
