Gaia Takes A Breath

Gaia Takes A Breath

A Poem by MomzillaNC
"

A poem about the pandemic lockdown of 2020, and the rapid beginning of earth healing itself while we hunkered at home

"

While we are social distancing

Watching behind our windows

Longing to break free

From silence that strangles

Lockdown behind cold walls

Behind which dreams die

Hope divided, devil tossed

Leaves hushed and empty streets

Dancing wind renews the world

Silences quell polluting noise

Burbling streams run clear

Birdsong sweetly lilts

The backbone of the sky

Shines bright in clear night

Bullfrog orations fill the silence

A nightingale sings a lovely tune

Across a land scarred

A respite has dawned

A brief moment of relief

Gaia takes a breath and sighs

I've noticed clearer skies and more birdsongs, and I've seen the TV footage of animals reclaiming space, including empty man made streets. Humans are hunkered down, but the rest of nature is on a resurgence. In the end, this pandemic could actually be a positive thing, like your very lovely poem suggests.
