Berry Pomeroy Castle

Berry Pomeroy Castle

A Poem by Tara Prudden
"

A true story and haunting experiences.

"
Berry Pomeroy Castle.

The path descends,
On a moonless night,
Bush's and tree's
Whisper to me
I hear her voice
What is she saying,
Or is the wind singing a hymn?
No bird's in the tree's,
No star's in the sky,
No sounds, l could shudder.
As l walk a few steps closer
Out of the dark, there it stands,
A medieval castle with walls,
It stands in pride of place,
Hundreds of years,
Left to ruin,
The stories it holds...
Within it's walls
They are forbidden.
It beckons me near
But the things I've seen,
We're like mapped out for me,
As if it knew, l would come,
To let me know, l wasn't alone,
Then just by chance..
I saw a figure,
Jet black and walked with a stride,
And walked right by,
The shock on my face...
Would make you shudder.
I had to explore, was there more?
Oh yes indeed, we'd have to leave,
When back on the path,
There in the bushes...
A ghost surely did appear,
He stopped and stared and glared,
Then walked into the midnight air.
Nothing was said of that frightful night!
Would l go back?
I just might, but never alone,
For that's when they like to play.
