Do What You're Here to Do

Do What You're Here to Do

A Poem by Montag

the Texas abortion law

Do What You’re Here to Do

It gets the job done, through a legal contortion

this bill they enacted outlawing abortion

The outlawing part wasn’t such a surprise

but I never expected they’d deputy-ize

the church-going folks to inform on the others

according to Jesus, their sisters and brothers

The informer gets paid with a kind of blood money

You and I know there ain’t nothing funny

‘bout ten thousand dollars

buy a car or a boat or a beautiful chariot

ride around in it like Judas Iscariot
