Duality

Duality

A Poem by Mr. Malarkey
"

The struggle of choice

"
It never gets any easier does it?

Truths and ideals
Two aspects that sway thoughts
The reality of the world
The fantasy of the ideal

When aligned, everything is blissful
When opposed, a sacrifice is demanded
Follow the established facts
Or chase your dreams?

Fantasy begets pleasure
Reality enforces security
Emotions versus logic
This time, they are opposed

We're not out of this jungle just yet

I met someone under the moon
Kind and beautiful, in mind and body
But broken, and unable to live in comfort
Fantasy says yes, reality says no

My mother spoke to me this morning
I realized the reality of things
How easy it is to be blind
Fantasy sways like a potent drug

I am a hawk climbing into the field of azure
Enraptured by a dove
She has reached her ceiling
The forces are opposed

Sacrifice is demanded

The problem of choice
Continue flying higher into life
Or restrain my potential to soar with the dove?
Decisions decisions

Maybe stay as friends
The cop-out answer
But riddle me this
Have you seen a hawk and dove together?

Love is fickle
But here's the reality
A hawk can become a dove
But a dove cannot become a hawk

F**k you too nature

The duality of reality and fantasy
In a world of seeking happiness
Reality favors the far future
Fantasy favors the near future

I hover in a balance
Keeping it casual
Calculating my choices
Procrastinating the inevitable

You never know though
Maybe the dove can become a hawk
But that's also just a fantasy
And this is a world of reality

The choice is never easy

You're right....the choice is never easy. I am often pulled in one direction or another. Sometimes it seems I have no control over which will win. I think that is a part of being an INFJ personality type. It is one that I am learning how to deal with and find balance in.
I really hope that a dove can become a hawk.
This is an enjoyable read....that I know is relatable for everyone.

Duality is the nature of the physical universe, be it black and white, up and down, winners and losers. The speaker here is facing one of those either/or choices: whether to take a chance on an uncertain love or continue to play it cool. The last verse is a dialogue between his good and bad angels. The last line shows his frustration. The note indicates both a happy ending and a realistic assessment.

Indeed it is not, because each and every decision taken, and there are thousands made daily, are never as simple as yes/no, black/white.
Nothing is ever that simple, yet as your title says, life is lived in a constant duality of decisions being made with no tried and tested formula that can be used for everyone or everything.
Even the simplest things become complex the closer we look. You could look outside and see a tree. Should you chop it down for warmth or use it for shade. Should you evict any tenants of said tree and break up a family home, or does nature put that tree there for a reason we can't fathom.
And that's just looking at a tree!
Life is always more intricate than we can imagine, and so is every decision made.
Now, would that tree make a sound if it fell? Argh, more complexity 😀
Enjoyed this one a lot.
