I am what I am

I am what I am

A Poem by Mrudula Rani
"

Introducing myself

"
I am, happy-go-lucky -sort!
Wherever I am, to my surroundings I adopt,
Unlike chameleon, I never change my coulours.
Been living in Brasil for so long, myself a Brazilian, I consider
I love their accommodating, friendly nature,
And their love of life and fun under the sun!
They greet every one with kisses and hugs even on the
very first meeting !

I do love Canada.
As a teen bride my first home, there I made!
The gracious Canada will always be my favorite,
Along with the Canadians, for they are courteous and so polite
And to remind, I do have my own two!

By birth I am an Indian.
Features, and stature remind,
My taste, my way of thinking lean towards India!
I believe in the presence of Divine,
And the Spark that dwells in you and me the same.
I suppose wherever I am I love that land.
But the person in me will always be the one... myself, I found!

The title of your poem really draws me in becuz so many people do NOT feel comfortable in their own skin, so I was interested to find out why this narrator is so accepting of his/her life & personality. I love the way you use different geography to show us where you've been & how that has helped become part of you. I also feel very connected to my surroundings, & it defines who I am. I agree with you about Brazilians being friendly . . . same way with our neighbors the Mexicans . . . I think it's a "Latino" trait . . . so loving & accepting of family, friends & strangers. Very imaginative introduction & I'm glad to know a little more about you! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

This is a wonderful poem. I think it should be pasted up on every Embassy wall in every country! And the last line is so brilliant. We are all individually 'ourselves' wherever we are! Thank you for sharing.

OH I like that, ...Astro. I have been meaning to change my name for years!!!!!
I always think you need to ingratiate yourself in the country your in. That way you gain their respect. It doesn't detract from your own origins.
I also think food brings people together.
Nothing better than eating something different.
But you're right. In the end, you have to be yourself.
