And I Shall Love You

And I Shall Love You

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

And I Shall Love You

I may never write an American novel,
or win a Pulitzer prize.
I may never see Paris in the spring
or smell sweetly
the golden Iowa wheat.

But l shall love you…

And that is as clear to me as the Colorado mountains.
It is as pure to me as a Minnesota snow
and the perpetual rains that fall
in Seattle.

And while you are near
with the brilliance of a million stars in the sky
l will hold you,
longer than the Pacific is deep.
I will treasure you more than any jewel,
and remain yours
far beyond the pyramids of time.

And l will love you.

That is as clear to me as the Colorado mountains.
As pure to me as a Minnesota snow.

Oh wow, how wonderful to have you here...thank you so much, and welcome!! ; )
I enjoyed reading this poem even though I was getting a little chilly as we reached the end. I think perhaps the poem may be a bit heavy handed on references to either place names or objects.

...thank you!
oh my!! i do love this ..it moves me almost to tears!! truly ... the contrasts of scenes and places in harmony of hearts .. very smart says i! and so warmly emotive .. i love that you bring in Iowa!! it is a neighboring state and i ride their county roads in the fall ... that smell is so distinct and if one pays attention ..that "boring brown" is studded with so many shades one would have to be an artist to name them ... Seattle is another great choice .. anyone who has been there has so much more packed into memories than those rains .. beautifully done! a very enjoyable read for me!

Kelly, Thank you for gathering up my whole imaginative bag 'o' tricks and taking it on a lovely field trip. You paint your feelings of love on spots, dots on the world's stage, footlights illuminating the passion. As close a complete explanation of love can begin to approach, this is blissfully sweet and abidingly real. Thank you for sending the RR. take care...dan

My pleasure, my friend...and thank you for all you give!
Ok this is FULL of love and sensuality, as always with your wonderful work Kelly. I adore your ability to weave the sadness and hope as a single thread. I would though dismiss the final two lines as tortology.

I appreciate the suggestion, John, but I'm quite pleased with how it reads...tautology or not. Than.. read more
This sounds like a piece you would say to the groom at your wedding. Its a very sweet and true piece from your heart. Nice Kelly.
