A January of Snows

A January of Snows

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers
"

...still feeling the chill of winter

"

A January of Snows

syllables and nouns

leap from my throat

in an ebullient attempt

to define

a love

more beautiful than

a January of snows.

This brief offering goes nicely with the accompanying picture. It captures a moment that symbolizes a longer period of time, a January containing many snows. It makes one wonder if the poet lives in Buffalo, New York.

Thank you, John. I thought it was a lovely poetic expression.
Short and sweet - the beauty you define in the crisp air and the snow contrasting with the billowing red cape .. This is stunningly beautiful - thank you.

Take care - Dave

The perfect poem in time for Valentine's Day. Just how does one describe such love that is so difficult to put into words? I believe you captured its essence with an image of snow in January and the haunting photo of the young girl in a flowing red cape. Truly touching and a beautiful tribute to the one you love.

First of all, I love the picture you chose! Your choice of "ebullient" as the main adjective in the piece is great, especially in comparing the visuals of the poem. Snowflakes fall in unmeasurable numbers, and your want to define a more beautiful love is boiling, bubbling, overflowing inside of you, unmeasurably. Neat write!

That's me, I'm always bubbling to overflowing! How wonderful to see you, Kay! Thank you!
Such fun! When you find it post it. I had a similar experience in Red Fall with changing leaves. Nature brings us moments so crystal clear that we can hardly replicate. Its as though we are washed clean in their contemplation.

You are so kind, Cassie...thank you!
Words are the expression of the heart, often struggling to encapsulate the feelings within, sometimes falling together into a poem that has its own life and impact... just as the snow creates a new world while the old world continues its beat...

Your poem gave me much pleasure, as did the image... it caused a stirring, a 'je ne sais quoi' - so hard to define

I know precisely what you mean, Jibey. Thank you so much for your presence here!
You could use that picture for an endless source of inspiration.
It's amazing how everything seems lovelier covered in a fresh dusting of snow.
