A Modern Day Cinderella

A Modern Day Cinderella

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

A  Modern Day Cinderella

I was all about the pencil skirt.

With my hair in a chignon

and a tendril or two

intercepting the linear drop of an earring.

On numerous occasions

I’d treat myself to café lunches at noon,

of chicken rosemary with an almond pilaf

and a goblet of a red Zinfandel.

I’d sit in a corner booth,

peering at the comings and goings of merchants

while unpretentiously flirting

with the gentleman in a guise of gray.

A modern day Cinderella,  am I.

Nestled  here in my over-sized chair.

With my hair in a scrunchie

and a tendril or two

clinging to the opening of a terry cloth robe…

as I read from the pages

of a Harlequin romance,

sipping my herbal teas till noon.

Both fit within our world, At one point necessity mostly made it an either or - BUT time evened out individual roles and play.

Thank you, Chris. Your presence is always welcomed here.
I love how fantasy can take us away to who we might be. There is a fluidity to this one I really like. I sometimes daydream of being a lonely mountain man in the Rockies, but who am I kidding, I'd die of of the cold the first night out of town. Ha. This is great. Have a good night, Kelly.

Very much appreciate your visit, Corey. Thank you!
This is so good, I love the imagery you write with, and it's descriptiveness. There is nothing wrong with being your own Cinderella....

Now that i have live many days. I would love to read stories of THIS Cinderella you are talking about in your poem. This is strong. A Cinderella with a goblet of a red Zinfandel? I am in. Great write.

Thank you. I appreciate that!
Hahaha!!! The fact that you can write both sides of that equation is a bit of a tell, you realize.

I can so relate.:):)

Loved this one... I’m a sucker for Cinderella stories.

I saw a new version of Cinderella just months ago, starring Lily James, and I would highly recommend.. read more
Kelly, just stop! Please, just stop, okay? Stop making me feel like I am a voyeur looking over your soft shoulder as you write yet another naked, emotionally revealing poem. Stop making the poems about ME. (As I am sure every other male poet feels or wishes it was him.)

Stop ensnaring me in your poetic webs, leaving me dangling, wishing either to be consumed by you or released from the desire of same. Kelly, just stop.

Dangle away, I'll follow . . . .
Fantastic! Yes, we sit reading fantasy romance novels waiting for our Prince Charmings to arrive....but do they? If they do, will they switch out that terry bathrobe for a satin one and treat us like Princesses? Sitting in the back booth flirting....I can picture it. This is a great one, Kelly. Lydi**

you made me feel as though I was watching from two tables away.. a safe enough distance to go unnoticed, but close enough to take you all in.... surely one of your recent best :)
