December Bleeds Your Memory

December Bleeds Your Memory

A Poem by Kelly Scheppers

December Bleeds Your Memory

Christmases past are calling

as I settle into the abyss of darkness,

of days accumulating

like a January of snows.

The realm of your existence

is forever fleeting,

pulling me further away

from the precipice of death,

sequestering my consciousness

into the light

for December bleeds your memory.

My Mother passed in Hospital two days after Christmas in 1978.
It was expected; however I could not imagine the loss.
At four am, I felt life leave her body. The Room had curtains
with screened in windows... as it had been a warm Christmas Season.
There had been no wind all day, but the moment Life left her body,
the wind moved the Curtain... now I am a true Believer in the
hereafter. Your poem has captured the Wind in the Willow beside still waters....
forever embedded in my heart. tenderly, Pat

Thank you for sharing such a stirring moment, Pat. I wish you a blessed year, my friend!
And those accumulated days come without refunds and only serve to make the days in front of us longer, if we let it. It feels to me in your write as well as thinking of days past and those ahead of us, that doubting reality is becoming the norm and that having a Dorothy moment of waking to find it all a dream would be accepted without question, as long as it brought the nightmare to an end.
Hope you are well and safe and clinging to those lyrics of remembering those who came before us and targeting a new start as the calender ticks over one more time, leaving regret where it belongs.
🎶We'll talk a cup o kindness yet, for the sake o auld lang syne 🎶

Your review is one I'll hold most dear. Happy New Year, Lorry! And thank you!
Certain holidays bring back specific memories to us....bring back the feeling of enormous loss because the people in those memories are now gone. Your words are always so emotional and they take me on a ride through my memories. Just beautiful, Kelly. May 2021 be better for us all. Lydi**

I certainly hope so! Thank you, Lydi!
"sequestering my consciousness
into the light"
yes! lets do that, Kelly! one and all ... reminds me of this .. from the Bible; James 4:8, KJV: "Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded." ...i think there is much good that has come from this past difficult year. We found out it doesn't take 10 yrs to develop and improve medicine ... that manufacturing can turn on a dime and produce ventilators and PPE ... that we are a diverse and free people living together .. most of which are responsible. I think many who have not in the past ... turn to God in prayer and Faith .. many who already do .. do it more ... we learn and adapt ... we survive
