Distant Lights

Admiring the nature and the distant light makes me miss you more

DISTANT LIGHTS

The lights surrounds me, 

They twinkle like tiny stars.

Darkness finds a way, 

Amidst the brightest paths.

Picturesque the night is,

Into gloominess it falls.

They are glitter to my eyes, 

That gleams like distant stars.

The light dims and shines,

Airbrushed the tiny particles are.

Sparkles they are of a dark night,

Far, yet near than the stars.

There is something about the distant lights, 

That captures my attention. 

They make me miss the person I love, 

Distance- I fear, is the cause of our separation.

Admiring the nature and the distant lights

Makes me miss you more. 

I wish I could end the distance

So that we could watch the radiance along. 

I want you too along the scene, 

So that you complete my view.

Stand under the cloudy sky

And watch the distant stars with me.

Make the lights shine bright with your presence 

Fill my heart with your love to the core.

Light up the sky with me, come along

Let's not worry about the distance anymore.

I like the way you juxtapose darkness with the pinpoints of faraway lights, since you need darkness to appreciate the spread of lights (as in your picture). I like the way you poem seems to meander along at a slow pace, not really expressing urgency, but it seems your message slowly gets around to comparing the light show with the idea of missing another person. Overall you paint a fulsome sequence of ideas. In the stanza before the last stanza, you write: "stand under cloudy sky & watch stars" -- this does not sound authentic to me, since nobody watches the stars under a cloudy sky! *smile* Fondly, Margie

I love to see the lights in the night, and strangely, it makes me feel something inside that i don't know how to describe it, but you did ! you said " it makes me miss you more " ! Maybe i'll find out the feeling i feel whenever i see the night lights ...
I like your transition from talking about the distant lights into the person you love, that combination is very beautiful and coherent !

It is so beautiful poem penned with nice choice of words for expressing the relationship between separation, union and light. You have chosen light that is pure. Light also had other meanings in medieval literature. Thank you for sharing....

Light was discussed as symbol of political and spiritual authority in Abul Fazl's Akbar nama. Moreover, Shihabuddin Suhrawardi Maqtul developed the theory of Ishraq (illumination) in philosophical way. He was a Muslim scholar, philosopher and Sufi during Muslim Era of Spain. He wrote a book, Sirajul Muluk in Arabic language.
