The almost disappearing sliver of the moon
shone in all its potential. My eyes were
drowning in the illusions of sleep. But I
pulled myself up, to stay awake.

He was online. It had been four days since
he had last held my hand. Since he had
called to wake me up in the middle of the
night, to just talk. What went wrong, I can
not say. He couldn't say. But he had decided
it was over for us. He had decided for both
of us.

The green light beside his name stares back at
me, keeping me wide awake. His name is on
the top of my chat list. I scroll up through
our earlier conversation. It's mostly
emoticons and sarcasm. Pink heart symbols
or kisses.

The green circle beside his name and I are
still having a staring contest. It refuses to
give away. It refuses to get bored of me. I
refuse to get bored of it.

I miss him so much. His picture beside the
green circle coursing through my very being.
Oh, how I miss to run my fingers through
his soft hair. Oh, how I miss rubbing off
spilled tomato sauce from his chin. Oh, how
I miss to just hold his hand and sink into the
comfortable silence.

My head is resting on the keyboard of my
laptop now. I have lost the staring contest.
Now, I hope against all logic. I hope against
all odds to hear a pinging sound. Till then, I
rest my head and close my eyes, trying to
shut out all those flooding memories of 'us'.

From somewhere distant, a pinging sound
startles me out of my reverie.
It's a notification from him.

He has changed his relationship status. To
'single'. Lobbing off all lingering hopes, all
longing sense to love more, all happy
memories of us. Shutting the screen of my
laptop close, I go to sleep.


It is over. So over.
