B.U.R.M.A.

B.U.R.M.A.

A Poem by Narnie
"

Over simple but then these things sometimes are :)

"

from me

so polite

your address

my address

first class

so refined

rhombus folded

and sealed

tight

(plumped with so many forgivable clichés)

so subtle

the wish

the kiss

on the stamp

in the post box

on the plane

with the postman

again

to you

B.U.R.M.A was an acronym that many used on the back of envelopes. It stands for Be Undressed and Ready My Angel. I like how people write things on the outside of envelopes that gives a hint at the insides.

Oh, I see what this is about'..love the acronym meaning..
Love the poem....fun, and a bit naughty..just right... :-)
ps
A long time ago, along North American roads, a shaving cream company would put out a series of signs along the highway.. The would advertise "Burma Shave",
a little blip on each sign.
They were funny sayings that caught your eye..like

"Henry The Eighth
Sure Had Troubles
Short On Wives
Long On Stuble!
Burma Shave"

Each sign had a line..
I enjoyed your poem, as always.......:-)

This was funny. It reminded me of a song by David Allen Coe called X's and O's, it goes like this:
"Deliver de letter de sooner de better
The upside down stamp meant the kisses were wetter
I.S.Y.I.M.D., I'll see you in my dreams, honey
T.S., T.S., T.S.A., S.W.A.K
X's and O's who knows what all of that means?
P.P.D.S.P.E.M.R.M.F.O.B.T. must have took
Lots of hours for you to see
What I was saying back then when we were still green
P.M.P.M.D.S.O.F.'s not hard at all
Please Mr. Post Man don't stumble or fall
I still remember what M.B.D.D.F.C. means
S.W.P.A.P. was a twister
Sprinkled with powder and perfume, my sister took
Two days to figure out sweet dreams forever sweet dreams
S.D.F.S.D. had her seeing double
The envelope looked like a good Chinese puzzle
Yes I got those letters you wrote me when we were fifteen
By younger son and the oldest son
Deliver de letter de sooner de better
The upside down stamp meant the kisses were wetter
I.S.Y.I.M.D., I'll see you in my dreams, honey
T.S., T.S., T.S.A., S.W.A.K
X's and O's who knows what all of that means?

I'd not heard of B.U.R.M.A. before, but like the idea. When overseas in the Navy many years ago, my wife would put S.W.A.K on her letters, right beside her lipstick mark. (When no one looked, I'd kiss that spot) An ancient memory now, I can still remember those pleasant feelings it gave me.

no matter what technological advances there are nothing beats good old human interaction. A wonderful little poem that says so much.

I can almost hear the metronome ticking a measured beat to this poem. Kudos S.W.A.K.

'first class' - nice
'refined' -indeed. what a word: refined - beautiful
the parenthases'd line makes the poem
and the last line.
unique. and beautiful
