"Broken Beauty

"Broken Beauty

A Poem by JamesTleBourn
"

I came to the ruins day after day / Many souls have deemed me misanthropic

"

I came to the ruins day after day

Many souls have deemed me misanthropic

Those false accusations excuse the way

I find peace in dull paths and entropics

The way shattered buildings appease my sight

How cracked glass reflects the sunset’s true heart

Watch the fall as steel and earth reunite

See crumbling stones form accidental art

Observe nature’s constant battle with man

Vine against beam grappling for victory

Pleasing equilibrium that began

Long ago in war during history

Thus are the ruins and the battlefield

Broken beauty had me utterly healed

This is great. I loved the rhyme scheme with the couplet at the end.

Thank you! It's a sonnet so that's the rhyme scheme :)

That makes sense now, I should have realized. My english teacher would be disappointed I guess.
I really enjoy that it was really amazing.

Change is the wild card in this life. It can effect us either way. Usually it is beyond our control.
All we can do is adapt and change with it...

Very true, TV. Your comment reminds me of our present time.

Very beautiful. Sometimes things or people that become broken, remain broken.

One of my favorite places to visit in America is the town of Gettysburg. It was the turning point of the Civil war in 1863. There is so much of it that has remained untouched. Cannon balls still in the walls of the houses, bullets still being found in the fields. There's spirits there that will never leave. Your poem reminded me of it because despite everything that's happened there, it's still one of my favorite places on Earth and I just can't understand why. Hundreds of tourists go there a year and take tours of the battlefields and walk around to the monuments. But I feel like I'm right back there in 1863, in the middle of the war. I don't know, just a thought. Long story short I like your poem, a lot. I'm sure it makes everyone feel something different, but it brings me back to 1863.

Thank you for your kind words, Annie! Stay safe and keep writing.

The ending does not rhyme, needs more thought and tears of frustration. Read some more literature to improve your vision of the world and hence nuance your understand of themes such as mankind verses nature. Reading other texts will not make you lose your touch, it will make it stronger.
keep track of your syllables.

Your poem reminded me of the bombed sites in the city of London, where tiny flowers would spring up in the chaos. London pride, they were called. There is always beauty, even in ugliness. Mother nature reigns supreme. That's where you took me with your well crafted lines. Great work.
