A Chapter by J.R. Bergwick

"Greece is probably only a two hour flight from Ireland. Why did we go back to the Den?" I pace around the table we're gathered at in the JFK airport in New York.

The plane had landed in New York for a pitstop and to re-fuel. To pass the twenty minutes we were stuck here for we decide to grab a bite to eat. Fast food is far cheaper, and better tasting, than airplane food.

"Stop complaining. We followed protocol. It's not like we're on a time crunch or anything." Taylor watches me pace, "For the love of the gods! Ivan sit down, you're making me dizzy."

"Actually we kinda are if you think about it. Every moment we're stuck on this trip to Greece, the Eclipse could be recruiting the Minotaurs we're after. Not to mention we don't exactly know where the Greek Underground is. Do we?" I look around at my comrades hopeful that Kara, Daim, or Patrick would speak up

Kara shakes her head, "Sorry. I've never been to Greece before. I'm sure we can find someone who'll know when we get there. They've always have guides."

"I be hoping you're right. There be some downright nasty beasties in Greece. Let be  tryin to stay far away from tha water. I don't want to be runnin’ into any Hydras." Patrick worries

"Really Patrick, Hydras? I'm sure that most of that Greek mythology stuff is just myth." I say

"Don't be so arrogant Ivan." Saundra begins, "Centors and Fawns are both Greek myths and yet they are, supposedly, Envy and Sloth in the Chaos Eclipse. What's to say the other stuff isn't real? Seriously Hun sit down, you're drawing people's attention. Your hair already does that enough already."

"I'm very proud of my hair thank you. I'm a part of a social group that's becoming more and more scarce." I run a hand along my Mohawk

"That's because punk is dying. When we get to Greece we're redoing your style." Saundra says blatantly

My eyes widen in horror. "Not a chance in hell. I'm punk till death."

"Two stops from now your punk is going bye-bye."

"No Saundra, I'm not changing myself. This is me whether you like it or not."

"Fine then, if you're going to be like that. I didn't want it to have to come to this but it's your punk or me. Choose."

I sigh then pinch the bridge of my nose and close my eyes. I silently count to ten and open my eyes again. "Saundra, I'm not doing this right now. We can talk about this later."

"What are you thinking about leading him towards?" Maurine asks girlishly

I snap an evil glare at her and burn holes into her with venomous malice.

"I don't know. I guess I'll have to figure that out later." Saundra pouts

The intercom system in the airport pops on and begins to speak, "Flight 192 to Cairo now Boarding."

"There's your flight. Better hurry, you don't want to miss it." I hiss at Maurine

"Love ya too Ivan." Maurine rebuttals dryly

Shortly after, we're called to board our flight. The next stop for us in London, which is a long plain ride away. Still mad at Saunda, I trade seats with Kara and sit by Daimian and Patrick.

"I think it's good fer ye to stick up fer yerself. But just a tip laddie, no matter which race of creature ye be the woman is always, an I mean always, right. Ye be fighting a losin’ battle. Whether ye like it or not she's gonna win."

I sigh again, "I know Patrick. It's just not fair, why do I have to change for her? Besides she asked me out in the first place when I was at my pinnacle of punkness."

"Because, Ivan, that's how it works. It's a lose, lose situation. If you give in you lose your 'punk' as you say, but if you resist you lose by default." Daimian says

"How's that?" I inquire

"What, the default part? It means you get a pissed girlfriend and won't hear the end of it. Expect no attention other than nagging." Daimian explains

"Oh." I admit, defeated, "I guess you're still my mentor after all."

Daimian laughs, "Are you kidding? I'm still learning. How many dates have you seen me go on?"

"Two. One with...what was her name? Sam! That's it, that hunter from the Den. The second was with...I don't know. You never told Taylor or me about that one." I answer

"The other one was with Luna before she became an Elder." Daimian says proudly

"You used to date Luna? She's not the one you took to the Cafe is she?" I ask in horror

"She told me she just wanted to go out for some blood, I didn't know she meant she wanted to go after a human. It's rare for our kind to go after blood from the source." Daimian says defensively

"Great, and I'm taking girl advice from you? I'm doomed. How about you Patrick, any ladies back home?"

"Back when I was in the military I did. I used to be in the L.S.A.F." Patrick beams

"What's the L.S.A.F.?" I ask for Daimian and myself

"Leprechaun Special Assault Force. That's like tha tip top fer us Leprechauns. After I retired from tha force I didn't get many dates."

We land in London seven hours, and several naps, later. We have another twenty minutes to waste as the jet refuels. Needless to say we're all impossibly hungry, the inflight meals provided were horribly tiny. On our way to find food I grab Saundra's hand and pull her to the side. The group stops momentarily but continues on when I signal for them to go. Saundra tries to pull her hand away from mine, but I tighten my grip. Once I'm sure she'll stay I let go. She huffs and crosses her arms.

"You know ignoring each other is pointless as much as I do. We might as well get this over with here." I place my hands on her shoulders

"Yeah." Her shoulders drop a bit and she gives a reluctant smile, "So what's the plan then?"

"It's clear that neither of us are going to give in to the other's wants, so lets meet in the middle." I suggest

"I'm listening." Saundra says mindfully

"I will allow you to re-mold me on three conditions." I say firmly

"Okay. Lets hear them." Saundra unfolds her arms

"First off, I keep my leather jacket."

"Fair enough. The jacket stays." She agrees

"Second, I get a say on the new me. That means no clothes I don't approve of." I say

"Of course. I was going to let you do that anyway."

"And lastly, I keep my mohawk."

"No." Saundra frowns, "That's the main thing that's got to go. It draws too much attention, no to mention that no one in their right mind will follow the orders of some punk with a giant mohawk."

I take on a tone of realization, "That's what this is about? I though you wanting to remake me was a personal desire."

"What? Ivan, I love you for you. I'd never want to change you. I'm remaking your image because nobody would take an order from you in your current state," she gestures to my clothes," and you have no sense of fashion whatsoever. To be honest I'm surprised that King McMill joined us."

My face takes on a shade of embarrassment, "Why didn't you say anything before?"

"Because it's something most people have to do on their own, but some need someone to point it out to them. I find it impressive that you've got clothes back at the Den that aren't totally shredded or decked out in spikes. Plane and simple though Hun, the mohawk is gone. If you'd like you can keep the coloration."

"Deal." I grin and take her hand again, "Now where is the food in this place?"

"You've got the canine senses, you tell me."

After too much time following the most confusing signs in the world we finally find Daim, Taylor, Kara, and Patrick finishing their food.

"Card please, they've got Chinese food here and I'm not missing out." I stick my palm out to Daimian who pulls a plastic debit card from his jacket pocket

"Only five minutes until we have to board again, make it fast." Daimian says with a mouth full of food

Lucky for Saundra and I there is no line so we're able to order and eat. We decide to split something because of the time crunch. We may have set a record for the fastest disappearance of General Tao chicken. By the time we finish the intercom clicks on and announces its time to board once again. This is the last leg of our trip with only two hours of flight left.

I am once again sitting next to Saundra and Taylor. We give Taylor the window seat so he didn't have to listen to us ramble. Taylor puts in his earbuds so can block out our voices with loud music. As soon as we hear this music blasting we start talking about my transformation, with Saundra teaching me the basics of fashion. I never knew getting dressed could sound so confusing, I'm used to pulling a shirt from my closet at random and any pants that looked clean. From Saundra's description when we're done shopping, if we find everything, I will appear professional yet casual. What have I gotten myself into?

It only seems like fifteen minutes we land in Athens Airport, ATH.
