Let Your Heart Guide You

Let Your Heart Guide You

A Poem by Octavious

"
Let your heart guide you,
a common influential speech,
yet why do we say this if we don't know what it means.
The mind, and the heart are two different things.
Despite their functions they both fight for the same thing.
What is right,
what is wrong,
what is stupid,
what is logical,
WHAT NEEDS TO BE DONE.
But to follow your heart, your gut, your instincts -
I have to go through hell,
To follow my heart that means that I have to do what every soul thinks is wrong,
even though my heart know its in the right.
To follow my heart I need to leave them all behind,
because my mind knows that they'll do nothing but slow me down,
and try to tun me back around.
Let you heart guide you,
yes it aides in the long run,
but no one ever thinks about the journey in between the starting line, and the ribbon.
The path to the right, is narrow, and beaten down,
the bridge to the other side, swinging the harsh winds of their mockery,
The ropes thinning from the weight of rejection.
The waters poisoned with the hatred of the wrong,
Each branch and tree covered in thorns of anger and envy,
the envy from the few who know were it is right,
but aren't strong enough to battle through their fight.

Yet all they have to do is let their heart guide them,
and they'll all survive,
but its scarier done than said.
Despite your motivational speech,
many will continue to be ruthless, and struggle in the wrong,
there will still be those who are irresolute to take that first step,
and there will be only one who survives through the journey.
Mind over heart is what has been taught through out the majority of our lives,
some of us know,
yet many of us, haven't the slightest clue of our reality.
To say let you your heart guide you,
is a frightening thing for us to hear,
but we all know what is to come,
so I say let your heart guide you,
it's your choice of what steps you make.

If we follow the mind to the letter we may live practically and logically while having some beginning, middle and end planned out before us but where'e the fun in that. To truly live life to its fullest, one must follow the heart so that contentment can fuel all adventures. I enjoyed the content and sentiment of this piece.

A interesting topic.
"so I say let your heart guide you,
it's your choice of what steps you make."
I believe heart should lead in the action of love. Life decision by the mind and thinking. Better to know bad and good of all things. I enjoyed the poem. You open the door to a long conversation. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

4th stanza, 4th line, it should be "it's" not "its"
4th stanza, 7th line, you missed the 'r' in "turn" :P
5th stanza, 1st line, I suggest saying "your" instead of "you"
6th stanza, 2nd line, I think it would flow better saying "swinging with the harsh winds of their mockery"
8th stanza, 1st line, throughout is one word :)

Very powerful piece. I loved reading it. Very few errors which is nice to see, also! The message with this piece is spot on. Thank you for sharing :)

Very well written piece and thought provoking to say the least!
I believe if your heart is full of love and God is love then following your
heart is the way to go, but if your heart is not of love, then
probably not the right guide! You definitely had me thinking
on this amazing piece of poetry! Thanks for sharing and b-blessed!

Thank you so much, and you're absolutely right :)
Let your heart guide you" is how life should always be lived" although fragile and easily broken, compare to the logical and imaginative Brain/Mind, our Heart is the pulse that beats to the sound of life in a Muzak tone of courage, passion, the will to survive and to Love and be Love. A very well done straight to the point no nonsense Poetry about Life's course and direction " thanks for sharing;)

It's always a debate for me, do I follow my heart or my head?
I always get it backwards! Good poem Octavious!
Check this line 3: yet why do we say this if we don't (know) what it means.

i'm so glad you liked it :)
Theres a lot of really god imagery here. I especially liked this -
"Each branch and tree covered in thorns of anger and envy,
the envy from the few who know were it is right,
but aren't strong enough to battle through their fight."

I see a three way split here with the soul getting involved in this tangled mess too. With them all singing from their own hymn sheet thats a real battle for control. Quite a doodle poem ! Well penned.
