A Story by Nefertiti Virtudes Ahmes
"

A short based on social media, the news, modern day and our past. As humans we seem to tolerate too much these days. Just seeing something and never really reacting to it.

"

Difference should be an innocence.

Our essence should be peace

Our existence should be bliss

Our differences shouldn’t hold the weight of the world

The weight of how we should be treated.

Difference shouldn’t be a punishment

We’re art.

God’s art - flaws and all

Art

Creation

Beautiful even when we’re ugly

Kindness shouldn’t be hard

It should be instinct

Respect should be mutual

Tolerance and respect isn’t the same thing.

Too much tolerance today.

Tolerating the man made hate and mistakes.

All of which is unnecessary.

___________________________________________

Tolerating the lives lost.

Almost with no mercy.

Almost with no hesitation.

Almost with no remorse.

A moment's pause

To think selfishly of one's actions.

And of the consequences of what would happen to “me”.

But not of the life that’s lost.

That’s it. Tolerance.

Too much and too little.

Author's Note

Nefertiti Virtudes Ahmes
Ignore the genre..I wasn't really sure where to put this one. It's a mixture of everything from psychology, political or even environmental. This is subtle but it is a calling to pay attention to what is going on around us and actually take action to better our futures. From climate change to police brutality. Literally everything.

I like meditating on the idea that “tolerance and respect isn’t the same thing. Too much tolerance today.”

I agree that respect is the ideal but I rather have tolerance rather than the open animosity I view people communicating in the public square and on social media.
I’d say there is too much condemnation we engage in this “Cancel Culture”.

But you do address that with the lines: “Almost with no mercy.
Almost with no hesistation.
Almost with no remorse.”

Love the convicting ending that calls out only seeing actions through only the lens of consequences affecting self and not how it will affect others.

Great job!

Differences shouldn't tear us apart, but they sure seem to right now. Kindness should be the default, but for some reason, we seem to be moving away from that. This is a good reminder that tolerance has two edges.
