Marcella

Marcella

A Poem by Neville
"

More intoxicating than the wine she was named after

"

Marcella

Marcella wore blue stockings yesterday

Presumably to hide the bruise she

Recently invited me to touch or see

Marcella bears a faint though hungry

Private scar

Which only fingertips or lips or tongues

Of curious or serious lovers

Are welcome to explore

Marcella wears a tiny lunar smile

In each perfect lobe of her pierced ears

Marcella wears a timeless sensuality

The way old soldiers wear their polished

Campaign medals

For all the world to see

Marcella does not need reminding

Of her beauty

But occasionally she likes to be

I imagine her wearing a silver raincoat

Or plain white cotton bodice top

More graceful and exciting

Than a dolphin or Ferrari

Could ever claim to be…….

When I read Your first line I smiled big, then I stopped in Your second line, then again I smiled... though, Marcella seems to be a playful beautiful and luring woman, but i believe that she is searching for her true love, the one who is able to heal her hidden wound, yes she has a wound that only can be healed and sated by her true man, another poem written with Your own unique style, with Your own mind and imagination, with Your own unique expressions! those expressions which pay attention to the details many ignore, I hope she will give You a chance and have a drink with You.

Ahh Neville...Yes, that wound. Eve’s wound. We are blessed and cursed with it. Your Marcella knows too well. Your breathtaking poem is an ode to the mystery, the power, the eternal feminine. It floats and shimmers and sings softly, like Circe luring sailors from her rock. Adoring words, beautiful musicality, sensuous, profound and absolutely perfect poem.

You are far too generous, but I like it..........N
One of the best of yours I've read so far! (you must be prolific lately, as I've got a backlog of your recent listings in my library!) I like this one becuz of the way you detailed it in such a conversational romantic imaginative way. Some of your poems leave me wanting a little more. But this one goes on a bit longer than usual & I love getting so much detail to depict this character you're pining over! *wink! wink!* Fondly, Margie

Thank you so much Margie...........Nug, Wink & a Hug on their way to ya........
Who is this fine lass who you have portrayed so carefully with dustings of love. At times she seems fragile, and then others she possesses the kind of fortitude all women have.

I love the feeling and sentiment in this one - it seems light , but it's deeper than that :D

Man oh man. I'll write " great" ( too often bandied about on here but justified in my eyes for this) and leave it at that.
This will be one of only 3 that I've saved from this site for rereading and learning from.
Hope you are well Neville

I like the repetition of Marcella. It is as if you can't stop saying things about her. But she sounds as though she was a lady worth your obsession. The fact that she had a hidden scar, makes her all the more impressive. And you are still thinking about her ... 'I imagine her wearing a silver raincoat, Or plain white cotton bodice top.' It is wonderful when we can look back and remember the people who made an impression on us. And you have created a beautiful poem.

You are welcome.
I see I read this five years ago but believe me, it's just as fabulous a second time. Sensuality as old soldiers wear their polished campaign medals--Ka-boom! Those words are genius! The whole poem is, in fact.

wow! well done Neville ... you paint her so well! she is beauty ... she is scarred ... she is sensuous and delighting ... the sadness in her hunger is palpable my friend ... i think i met her once in Tijuana ... :( if Marcella were a little less prone to stray ... i think i would want to marry her ;) what a fine poem .. would not change a thing ... well done says i!
