Dance

Dance

A Poem by Neville

Dance

Dance not upon

Swollen dew soaked

Meadows

But on banks of mill pools

Deep dark and still

Where I shall have

My way between these

Shadows

Keen and calling

Deep dark and still

Somewhere gasping

Laughing loving mid

Quiet forest

Cool calm and becoming

Deep dark and still

Then to dance a dance

Of freedom sighing

Ne’er to come

This way again

Dark deep and still

Dancing deep and dark by a mill pond... never to come this way again...
The shadow in the pond... a friend who will respond... as Nightingales
sing and dream... truly a reflection of a melancholy moon. Pat

Bless ya our Pat.... twas that nocte for sure.... N :)
There is sadness in the tone of your lines, but dancing brings freedom and liberty. The sadder I am, the more I dance, and if you can't dance physically, then dance mentally. Beautiful poetry with dark and stark imagery.

this one feels so enchanting, i love it.
hints of romance, i can easily imagine fairy lovers playing coy as they flirt through a dance

This is one of my very favorites of yours to date. The repetition lands a solid cadence and lends to the tone nicely. Creates a ballet like resonance mixed with nature and reflection. Amazing all the way around. Great work!

I must admit I don’t dance often or well, but when I do I feel a sense of freedom and good spirit. Maybe I should dance more often, especially in the dark moments. Thanks for sharing this poem.

We need to dance when we get the chance as if nobody is watching...and if they are dance anyway- two becoming one in an enchanting melody- take a chance on a dance...🌹

..... thank you
i like the repetition of that line...but the darkness here creates Poe-type shadows for the reader.
almost as if the darkness is friend...
like this one a lot.

what a lovely thing too say... my heart just did a little jig too... NUG ya Margie.... N :)
Indeed...to love and let go is an art. To dance there briefly, never to return again and to be free, that’s truly wisdom. Perhaps we hold on too tight and too long? This is real food for thought N.
